Winger Damian Scannell scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Stevenage Borough's reserve side this afternoon.

In a bloodied affair United were forced to substitute defender Zoltan Liptak after 15 minutes with a head injury.

The Hungarian, playing against he side he spent two months on loan at earlier this season, split his head open after a quarter of an hour - requiring four stitches to the wound.

Scannell though gave Southend a 2-0 half-time lead at Broadhall Way, before the midfielder completed his hat-trick after the break.

Dean Austin's reserve side wrapped up the victory when Franck Moussa was on hand to score from the penalty spot in the closing stages.

United's reserve side play their final game of the season on Wednesday night when they travel to Grays Athletic, kick-off 7pm.
