Simon Francis penned a three-year deal after joining Southend for an undisclosed fee from Sheffield United.
This saw the full back become the Club's second signing of the summer ahead of the new season in the Championship. Francis spent most of last season in League One where he made 17 appearances for Tranmere Rovers.
Having signed for the Blades for £200,000 from Bradford City, Francis failed to cement a first team place at Bramall Lane.
A loan move to Grimsby Town in 2005 was then followed up by his spell at Tranmere.
