Left-back Dan Harding joined the Blues on a six-month loan deal from Ipswich Town this summer.
Southend captured the former England under-21 international on a loan deal until 1 January 2009.
The 24-year-old started his career with Brighton and Hove Albion, where he made 67 appearances.
Following a tribunal the full-back completed a £850,000 move to Leeds United in 2006 and went on to make 20 appearances.
Yet Harding moved to Ipswich Town a year later as part of the deal that took Ian Westlake to Leeds.
The Gloucester-born defender made 72 appearances for Ipswich, with 29 of those coming in the Championship last season.
