Darryl Flahavan may not be the tallest of goalkeepers, but what he lacks in height he more than makes up for with his all-round shot stopping ability.

The former Southampton trainee joined Southend from non-league Woking in 2000 and despite being released three years later, he rejoined soon after to deputise for injuries.

Since then Flahavan has played a pivotal role between the sticks in Southend's rise up the football ladder.

The custodian capped a superb campaign in winning League One with the Club when he was named PFA player of the year.

He was also named in the team of the season and picked up the players' player award from the Club.

With over 250 starts for Southend under his belt, Flahavan has established himself as one of the mainstreams of the side.

Flahavan worked his way into the record books this season after keeping his 88th cleansheet during the 2-0 Carling Cup win over Watford, which was enough to overtake the previous best set by Paul Sansome 10 years ago.
