In their ongoing bid to improve the atmosphere at Roots Hall Southend United are seeking a new club anthem.

The tune would be played before kick off to raise volume levels inside the ground.

And the Monkey's hit "I'm a Believer" is the current favourite.

"That's the one we're trying out at the moment," explained the club's commercial manager Brian Wheeler.

"The words could easily be changed to I'm a seasider' but we shall see what happens and if the fans like it.

"We're just trying to do everything we can to improve the atmosphere because over the last six months or so it hasn't been as good.

"Having a club song would definitely help that. Liverpool have You'll Never Walk Alone and most teams do have an anthem so it's certainly something we're looking at."

Other alternatives, including Alison Moyet's hit Blue and I Do Like To Be Beside Seaside, have also be considered.

But the final decision shall be with the Shrimpers supporters.

"It's up to them ultimately," said Wheeler. "We just want something to catch on.

"The newly formed Blue Voice group are doing a great job trying to improve the atmosphere and this is a part of this as well.

"Hopefully we can find one before we move to our new stadium."
