Southend United have accepted an improved offer from Brentford for transfer listed striker Charlie MacDonald.

The Bees have had their third bid accepted for the 27-year-old who has already turned down a move to Morecambe earlier this month.

United have now given permission to MacDonald to speak to the League Two side, who have been relentless in their bid to bring the former Charlton trainee to Griffin Park.

MacDonald signed for the Blues 12-months ago from Blue Square Premier side Ebbsfleet United but failed to command a regular role in Steve Tilson's side.

He scored five goals in 34 appearances last term.
