CLARKE FULL OF BELIEF
Peter Clarke revealed that Southend are confident of pulling out all the stops at Doncaster on Friday and continuing their pursuit of promotion.
The defender will be looking for the Blues to maintain their impressive run on form on the road at the Keepmoat Stadium and will take further confidence from the team having lost just one of their past seven away games.
It was this sort of resolute form that got Southend into the play-offs in the first place and Clarke certainly doesn't want their season to end, especially with a trip to Wembley and a return to the Championship so near in their sights.
There was little to chose between the two sides in the first leg and another tense affair is likely to be on the cards come Friday night.
"It was a hard fought contest against Doncaster in the first leg," told the club's website.
"In the first half we had a good amount of possession and maybe the better of it.
"Their goalkeeper made one really good save and we perhaps felt a little aggrieved not to be leading.
"Having that say, it is good that we have kept a cleansheet and the tie is still very much wide open.
"We now believe that we can go to Doncaster and win the game.
"Our away form over the last couple of months has been really good and we believe we can get the result we need at Doncaster and hopefully, put in a good performance to boot.
"We've been putting out a team that's a lot more settled and the spirit amongst the lads has been top draw.
"You get to the situation we are involved in now and there probably is pressure on the game, but these are exactly the type of games we want to play in.
"There is pressure in this situation, but it is an exciting time as well.
"It would be lovely to play at the new Wembley and to get back into the Championship has been the aim of the players, staff, the chairman and the fans ever since the start of the season."
He added: "I've been pleased with how my season has gone personally.
"I have played 54 games already and hopefully, that means I have been doing something right.
"I have shown a decent level of consistency and it's nice to be thought of when the personal awards are coming around at the end of the season, but going to Wembley and getting promotion back into the Championship would make it just about perfect."
